This unit describes the skills
and knowledge required to provide a first aid response to infants, children and
adults in line with first aid guidelines determined by the Australian
Resuscitation Council (ARC) and other Australian national peak clinical bodies.

 

This unit applies to a range of
workers within an education and care setting who are required to respond to a
first aid emergency, including asthma and anaphylactic emergencies. This
includes early childhood workers and educators who work with school age
children in outside school hours care and vacation programs.

Target participants: Workers who have not completed emergency first aid response training in an education or care setting, people who have not completed emergency first aid response training in an education or care setting for some time or  people seeking the tri-annual re-qualification assessment as required for licensing, set down by industry standards who may be required to provide an emergency first aid response in education and care setting, including community and workplace settings.

The face to face training is 8.0 hours and covers both theory and practical aspects of provide an emergency first aid response in an education and care setting.

Students are required to arrive at least 10 minutes prior to the course commencement.

Duration: 8 hours face to face training

Online learning required for participants without previous current certificate

Certificate recommended renewal period : 3 years

Prerequisites: min. age 14 yrs

Physical Requirements: In order to issue an accredited certificate, CPR must be performed on the floor with no exemptions.

Statement of Attainment: On successful completion of the training program Students will be awarded a Statement of Attainment for HLTAID012 PROVIDE FIRST AID IN AN EDUCATION AND CARE SETTING, including HLTAID009, as this unit of competency is holistically incorporated and assessments for HLTAID012 include all assessment components for these units in addition to the specific requirements for HLTAID009.
